About the event

In 2015 the Depot for New Play Readings opened as a gathering place for theater lovers who wish to stay abreast of trends in theater today. The group meets to read and discuss new work in a former train station outbuilding in Hampton, a rural village in Connecticut’s Quiet Corner.

In 2016, the Depot began to host local playwrights with their work, including a co-founder of the Boston Podcast Players podcast, Greg Lam; the award-winning poet John Surowiecki; and the award-winning playwright Michael Bradford.

In the late 1950s, the Depot building was moved from the site of the old Hampton Train Station, once a stop on an “air line” route from Boston to New York, to a private property in the village. Over the years the Depot has served as a barn for ponies and an art studio, once for award-winning editorial cartoonist Paul Rigby and later, the printmaker Rhea Nowick.

The Depot sits on land formerly inhabited by the Nipmuck Tribe.

Our mission is simple. Meet friends. Read new plays.
